Welcome to the Forres in Bloom website which we hope demonstrates
the very best of the town's efforts to provide all year round floral
interest, from our formal displays, to our permanent planting schemes
and the many outstanding sustainable environmental community projects.
Forres has been involved in the Beautiful Scotland in Bloom and Britain
in Bloom competitions since 1977 and in that time has enjoyed relative
success. We always endeavour to improve and develop and to encourage
all ages to make the town attractive and produce an environment which
will attract people to live and work in the town.
Though
we enter national and regional competitions the attractiveness of
the town for both residents and visitors is the paramount reason
the bloom committee exists.
In 2005 we won our category in Scotland in Bloom and the Jim Murdie
Award for Sustainability and also achieved a Silver Gilt in the
Britain in Bloom competition. In entering the competitions, the
bloom committee act as co-ordinators and compilers of various local
environmental schemes. In 2006 we won Silver Gilt in our Britain
in Bloom Category and won our Scotland in Bloom category.
In the past we have been greatly assisted by the Forres Footpaths
Trust and Forres Community Woodlands. In recent years we brought
the work of Moray Wastebusters to the Judges’ attention –
a group which won considerable praise in both competitions.
We are also strongly supported by volunteers of all ages who help
with weeding, spring cleaning, summer and autumn planting and litter
pick up.
